Good schedule development is the foundation of an effective project management, program management or EVM process. For many organizations, however, building sound, useful, maintainable schedules can be an elusive goal.

Xlander Consulting offers a range of education, training and consulting services to help you assess and improve both your schedules and your scheduling process. These include:

MSP 200 - MS Project  - Fundamentals

This two day course covers the critical knowledge and skills a project manager needs to create a project plan with MS Project 2016 during the planning phase of a project. This course is designed for students with an understanding of project management concepts who are responsible for creating and maintaining project plans. Target students will be looking to acquire the advanced knowledge and skills a project manager or project scheduler needs to update a project plan in MS Project  during the execution, monitoring, and controlling phases of a project. Each student must provide their own computer with MS Project software to work on the project exercises provided. 

This course is a presentation style course with live software demonstrations. This course content will be presented as a mixture of lecture, discussion, and hands-on exercises for the students to practice and apply what they learn.

PS201 - Project Scheduling Fundamentals

This two day course is designed as an introductory training course for those with limited experience or exposure in Planning & Scheduling.  This can also apply as a refresher for those who participate project controls on a regular basis.  It is also perfect for managers, supervisors. This course establishes an understanding of how a project plan is developed and interactive planning becomes an optimal schedule.  This course teaches the basic logic links between activities, calculations for early and late starts and finishes, and identification of the critical path and concepts of float. Interpretation of the reports gives this student the ability to use the schedule as a communication tool and collect progress against the plan.

This course is a presentation style course with live software demonstrations. This course content will be presented as a mixture of lecture, discussion, and hands-on exercises for the students to practice and apply what they learn.

PS300 - Project Scheduling - Advanced

This Project Scheduling Workshop provides broad yet detailed coverage of project scheduling for both the less experienced planner/scheduler as well as the seasoned project management professional. This workshop is designed for those who recognize that having a better understanding of the scheduling tools, techniques, and scheduling philosophies can have a major impact to performance assessments and day-to-day project management decision making.  Centered around the industry recognized Planning and Scheduling Excellence Guide (PASEG), and the Generally Accepted  Scheduling Principals (GASP), this workshop allows the student to begin to understand the necessary fundamental background of scheduling concepts and their specific applications with emphasis on analysis using the Critical Path Method.  This workshop explains how to assess schedule quality, the lack of which can invalidate a scheduling system and the data used by management, including an in- depth look at how to interpret schedule various reports to detect early warnings of potential schedule slips.  This course content will be presented as a mixture of lecture, discussion, and hands-on exercises for the students to practice and apply what they learn.

PS301 - Predictive Measuring

This Predictive Measures Workshop provides a broad yet detailed coverage of various project metrics available to the professional project scheduler as well as the seasoned project management professional. This workshop is designed for those who recognize that having a better understanding of project metrics can have a major impact to performance assessments and day-to-day project management decision making.  Centered around the industry recognized, A guide to Managing Programs Using Predictive Measures and the Generally Accepted Scheduling Principals (GASP), this workshop allows the student to understand the necessary fundamentals of program/project metrics and their specific applications.  This workshop explains how to assess various program metrics such as: Schedule, Cost, Risk and Opportunity, and Technical Performance Measures including an in- depth look at how to interpret various metrics to detect early warnings of potential program/project issues. This course content will be presented as a mixture of lecture, discussion, and hands-on exercises for the students to practice and apply what they learn.
